ANTHONY

KOUTRAS

PHOTO-BASED ARTIST

Anthony Koutras (he/him) is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design, majoring in Photography, and holds an MFA from York University. His multidisciplinary art background informs his photographic practice. Koutras’ work incorporates photography and combines the medium with sculpture, installation, and public intervention. His photo-based installations explore photography’s capacity to represent space and mimic objects. By using photography to mimic his subjects, he creates false spaces and environments, inviting viewers to interact with the installation and experience their public realm from a new perspective.

Koutras remains an active member of the art community. He has produced five solo shows, participated in numerous group exhibitions, and donated to prominent charity auctions. He is the recipient of Ontario Arts Council production grants (2015, 2007) and the OCAD McCain Post-Graduate Residency (2005). Koutras’ work can be found in numerous private collections and has been published in Flash Forward Tenth: Anniversary Book Set (2016) and Flash Forward (2008).
